Another vote for the Ruger 10/22,

or perhaps a Marlin 60...

Cant go wrong with a savage. A ruger 10/22 would also be great for a first gun, it has endless aftermarket parts and is a little more "advanced" than a bolt action. And if you're into all the tacticool stuff i think they have bullpup "stocks" you can buy and make your 10/22 look similar to a p90 and the like.

Well now im not quite sure what to get a savage bolt action in .22wmr has more a more powerful round and teaches you to hit what your aiming at. The ruger 10/22 is semi automatic can highly customizable Its not to different in ft lbs of energy , the wmr has around 30 more at 100 yds.

Although the 10/22 is super customizable I would have to say don't get it because it is expensive to do so. I would go with a bolt Savage, very accurate especially for the price. Are you set on the WMR? .22 LR is about 3.5x cheaper to shoot which should be a consideration.

Man I have been selling guns awhile and I own a GSG-522...... And it's is a AWESOME gun...... Cheap rounds, cheap gun, VERY accurate and fun to shoot. Plus since its so easy to go through .22 rounds you can buy a 110 rounds drum for it for only $70-80........AND it comes with rail system for mounting optics.

I been around and sale all guns!!!!! And I have a GSG-522 it is a AWESOME gun. Cheap ammo, cheap gun, VERY fun and accurate even with the standard iron sights...... Not to mention it comes with a rail system to mount optics and you can buy a 110 round barrel so you can go a long time before reloading.

How lethal is the .22lr? Would it be a decent round if your ever in a gunfight?

I hope you don't plan on shooting anyone.

Although it has a high level of one shot fight stoppers it is too weak if the person attempting to do harm is under the influence of something or very determined to do harm. .22 WMR is not much better in the "stopping power" unless your talking about squirrels over 100-ish yards, or some similar critter. But it's better than a stick or your bare hands.
