Shilen quote ...wow !!!!!!!!!

Just got my quote from Shilen on rebarreling my Model 70 to .257 Roberts..been a few years since I had this done and WOW..mite as well add a couple hundred to it and buy a Kimber or 2 maybe 3 Savage and rebarrel them...here it is -->
Barrel and Installation prices:

Stainless Match $678

for finish lengths of 26" or shorter.

+$200 pillar bed and float

This is the complete fitting job and includes lapping bolt lugs, crowning & checking action for squareness. We currently do not do any stockwork.

5 months delivery.

$35 shipping and handling for a rifle

TOTALS ABOUT $900 JUST FOR A REBARREL ON A HUNTIN SPORTER !!!!
Douglas rebarrel about 8 years ago = about $500

If that is from shilen I would pass. get a decent smith and have him do the job it might be a little cheaper.

OH man enough with all the savage talk.

I have buddies that have 4 or 5 smiths in our area and they send them off to smiths in other states.

Check out this guy the site is down but he has a contact number. Great guy I know from another board.

I believe that the chamber is HAND reamed and the threads cut with a lathe.

Sid Goodling, goodlingrifles.com he has a price list. Not sure what a Shilen barrel is going for nowa days. Was it Stainless? What contour, grade?

Sid does awesome work, a true custom rifle builder.
The price from Shilen doesnt seem that bad for what your asking for.
