Looks like you're sorta limited.

my recommendation would be a nikon prostaff in 3-9x40 or 4-12x40 both can had for less than $250 including tax. very clear and well made scopes. walmart even carries here where i live in Texas. i have a 4-12x40 on a 25-06 and plan on another soon as an upgrade on my remington M700 in 270! i really am impressed with the nikons. another scope brand i started using about a year ago is Swift. they are very good scopes for the money and you could get one in your price range too. i have to go through my gun dealer to get them. or you can order them hrough Midway. good luck.

Shootin, I hate to seem obnoxious. But you have fallen victim to the normal situation. You should spend the best money possible on optics and then buy a rifle to go with it. You can not shoot well what you can not see! The Nikon is good advise which was mentioned. And I like Nikon and they are good, but you need to get a good scope. Do not skimp on the scope you get! You have a good rifle and it and you deserves a good quality scope! And the bottom line how many scopes are you going to purchase for it! Logically ONE! So get the best you can buy. I am an avid Leupold Scope man but never has one let me down! More money yes! than others but more quality and more reliable/ YES!

Hey bud congrats on the new rifle! There a hoot to shoot. Just got myself a new remington 700 sps tactical in 308.
You should really look into vortex optics. I picked one up for mine and it is amazingly clear in all power levels and has great eye relief all the way through which I couldn't say about some of the pricier scopes they had at the store. Mine is a 3.5-10x50 crossfire which is under the 200 mark. Looked at red field scopes which were almost 100 dollars more had good clarity but the eye relief sucked as you went through the power levels. Looked a nikons which were 350+ but in my opinion didn't have as good of clarity. I'm still learning but spend a lot of time reading others reviews and what to look for. That's my best advice, figure out what you want in your optic then go from there.

And there is nothing like picking up 5 different scopes from different manufactures and comparing. Your eyes won't lie about what they like

In that price range, I would look at Burris and the new Redfields (made by Leupold).

Santa Claus brought me a Redfield Revolution 3-9x40 with Accu-Range reticle. I put it on my Marlin XS7 in 308. Very nice scope.

nothing wrong with the leupold scopes, have had a couple over the years, very well made and clear scopes. but they are pricey.
