OK, the other information is also important. How many MOA did it take to center the reticle for elevation? How many inches (up/down) was the elevation reticle at 25 yards, before trying to center it?

And, please confirm, when the bore is lined up on target, your elevation reticle is below the target?

Although we haven't as yet determined the solution to your problem, I doubt at this point a .020 base is going to be satisfactory to you.

I got it, yes you were saying it wrong first time, but what you are saying now.....the cross hairs are above the target by 6-7 inches when center and about 3 inches when you use all the 15 MOA adjustment......is just about correct for 25 yards.

Now......when I ask you do this.....you are for sure going to pull your hair out.....but, please humor me......put your .020. shim in the rear scope ring and see how much difference than makes?!?! You're either laughing or cussing!!

Hang in there bush

With the .020 shim I can get on target and have quite a bit of adjustment left to play with. No I didn't cuss much. You are helping me tremendously and thank you for bearing with me on my terminology I love to shoot and am ( not bragging ) a real good shot but am still learning the science of moa and the terminology

Wow, 15 up and 15 down for a total of 30 isn't very much. Some other brand scopes have as much as 80 total. Maybe another brand may be appropriate for this use..

Even within a particular brand there is great variation. This is from another active thread on FTF concerning MOA:

Nikon Monarch III scope specs:

Max internal moa / type scope

60 / 3-12x42

80 / 2-8x32

70 / 2.5-10x42

70 / 2.5-10x50

40 / 4-16x42

40 / 4-16x50

34 / 5-20x44

30 / 6-24x50

20 / 8-32x50

Got these stats off my instruction manual with the Nikon Monarch III.

Quit a bit....can you specify that closer.....how many inches did that take it below the target?

Also, what type of mission are you gearing this AR up for? Something like CQB zero to 50 yards and sometimes further......or would you like it to be setup for making precision shots out to the .223 effective range, say 400-600 yards? It makes a difference how you proceed.....

Thanks Snake, I was going there sooner or later, but good information you provided.

Mainly target shooting and some varmint hunting. Longer range. 200 plus. I rarely shoot past 400 yards with this rifle. Sounds to me I need to go scope shopping
