Default savage rifle for sale, good deal or no?

friend of a friend is selling a savage 30.06 bolt action rifle, in mint condition with scope for $400.00

just curious what everyone thinks that has any experience with the brand or in general, all opinions are welcome.

Depends on the rifles model, and what brand/model the scope is. You can get a nice savage with the accustock and accutrigger with good Nikon glass for $424.00 at sportsmans warehouse.

What model is the Savage?
110
111
112
114
116

If it's a 112/114/116 model,then it's a good price. If it's a 110/111,you can buy a new one for around the same price.

Thank you everyone!

I appreciate all the valuable feedback from which I can ask a few questions and make a better decision on whether or not to purchase. I get a little jumpy sometimes when things come along that are under $500.00. I'd actually prefer my first 30.06 to be an M-1 Garand but those aren't as easy to find and twice the dollars.
