I have owned a couple of 99's and wish I still had one. I know where there are several for sale mostly in 300. Possibly a 250. There is an old 303 take down but missing the rear receiver sight. The 303 was equivalent to the 30-30. Still a beautiful rifle. The price is $400. Undervalued. Definitely a hand loader as cartridges are hard to find. The others are running about $500. I shot my last deer with one in 308 a long time ago.

I have never seen one with a brass trigger. They were made with brass magazine rotors. The good ones were last made in 1950. I have a .300 that was made in 1950, snobble forearm brass rotor. My partner has a old 99 Saddle ring carbine in 250 Savage caliber. These are our fun rifles. We shoot them a lot in off season back country trips.

Besides collecting antique guns, ammo and knives, I also collect stories of old time outdoorsmen and the guns they used. Quite a few 99 were used in the far north, by famous hunters. The Charles Bronson caractor, in the movie Death Hunt used a Savage 99, was based on a real caractor, who used a Savage 99 takedown 30-30. I had a rancher friend that owned just one high power. The long carrer on a remote ranch in Colorado circa 1927 thru 1995. Mountain lion, bears, wolves, and deer were shot with this one Savage 99 25-35 caliber. I think I forgot to mention, the ruff and tumble rancher was a woman.
