The savage 99 is a rifle that should be brought back into production, don't care about the price I'd love a new one. It's getting harder and harder to find one that looks good as the bore/chamber isn't rotten. You can find one or the other but not both. Love the 99s minus the 22hp

the best ones u can get have the brass triggers and slide safety. i would reccomend finding one in 300 savage which is a excellent cartridge.

TEENAGEGUNNUT, you refer to a slide safety, all models have a slide safety since 1895. Some have slide safeties on the lever, others on the top, known as a tang safety. Which model are you refering to?

sorry tang safety. which makes it quicker to take off of safety to make a quick shot at a running deer

its one of the hardest to find. but correct me if im wrong. i hang around with alot of older gentlemen with my grandpa i just shut up and listen. i believe i heard something about that brass trigger is a quicker strike and crisper than the others i will search and get back to u

I quess Im one of "them older gents". There are many fine knowledgable people on these forums and you will meet many through your life, however many have beliefs backed up by liitle evidence. I am just in my early stages of the Savage 99 research. I have used them sparatically over 45 years of big game hunting, but didnt study them much. I have studied them some over the years and know most changes but have never heard the tang safety models had a faster lock time. I will have to do more research. The reason they are harder to find is the fact Savage produced fewer of them. When they made the change, fewer people wanted the 99 and though they produced them for @25 years, not that many were produced.
