Savage model 1899 ammo????
Hi I have a Savage HP model 1899. A few questions one what year was my rifle actually manufactured and where can I find ammo for this gun? I believe it will take a reloaded tapered 25/20 casing but im not sure. any info on this would be great. I have only fired 5 rounds through this rifle and the stamp on those rounds are (superspeed 25-35 WIN)

What is the caliber stamped on the barrel? The 99 was chambered in 25-35 Winchester early on but the action was strong enough to handle much heavier rounds in the 308 family. The 25-20 is a smaller cartridge than the 25-35 and would be dangerous. It might be possible to form cases from 30-30 brass but I am not positive. Midway carries 25-35 but it is pricey. You would have to get enough to reload and roll your own.
