HI all I have been looking at a Savage Mod 12 bvss 223. I have read very good things about this gun but was wondering is any one had first hand info on it.
It has an acutrigger and a lamanent stock. I have never fired an acutrigger what are your thoughts on this as well.

I have a Savage 12 FVSS in .223. It is the stainless in the synthetic stock.

When I first got it, it turned in patterns, not groups. VERY ammo sensitive.

Finally tried some Winchester 45gr and found heaven. It easily outshoots my partner's Rem700 Varmint in .223.

It has a Meopta 4-16x44 in Leup Mark4 rings.


In action on a ground squirrel cull a few months ago. Out to 380yds it was on the money. I kept the scope on 6X all day.

M14 do you reload for 223? I have had good luck with 52 grn hpbt hornady match using 24 grns of Bench mark in my ar. but every gun throughs lead diffrently.
Is yours a 1 in 9 twist?
I will have to remember the Winchesters though.

Fisherking,I have 5 Savage rifles.3 have the Accutrigger,and I wish the other 2 did. Once you get used to shooting a rifle with the Accutrigger,you'll love it.But they can be adjusted pretty light on some guns,and that isn't a good thing,some triggers can be set light enough for the trigger to go off while closing the bolt or bumping the gun on something.
I just acquired a Model 12-223 cal,but it is a pre-Accutrigger model.It shoots good though.

Hi FK. Yes, I do load .223, but I needed a base factory load to start with. The Win 45gr shot one hole, 5 shot groups so I have continued to use it. I have about 1200 rds left of the original order, so I'm good for a while.

I do all my own camo, thanks. It is cathartic, when time allows.

I need to check my notes on the twist. For some reason I was thinking 1/12, but it could be a 1/9.

I really like the Accutrigger. Feels like a good custom trigger.

Well I bought it and I think I'm going to like it.One of the employies at the store was the old owner and he told me the twist rate is closer to 1 in 8.5. He realy liked the sehara(sp) boattail match kings in 62 grns. He set the trigger to about 2lbs.
It is an older gun it doesn't have the black tip on the stock. I have read that the laminated stock is piller beded ,would it do to glass bed it as well?

Hay TX that is a good looking rifle and the groups are good to.I see that you like Varget powder as well. Have you ever tried Benchmark. I think it is the same a Varget but only smaller extruded grains. It burns nice and clean like varget as well.
Have you tried lighter bullits like the 45-55 grn and how do they shoot if you have?

Fisherking,The lightest bullets that I shoot are 55gr,Soft Points and VMax.
I haven't tried any out of the Savage yet,but my RRA AR15 shoots the 60gr VMax's better than the 55gr.It also has a 1-8 twist,and the Savage has a 1-9 so it might prefer the 55gr over the 60gr.
