I am thoroughly astounded by the level of precision that this rifle delivers! I picked it up second hand for 300 bucks at a gun show last month in.308 and just slapped a SS 20x42 Scope on it yesterday. Stepped out behind the house and was able to consistently hit cinder block halves at 500 yards all day! I even hear that Timney has produced an accutrigger variant for the Axis for around a hundred bucks! Thinking about picking it up and stepping this rifles game up even further! I figured with a lot of peoe wondering about Savage Axis rifles on the net i would put someone's mind at ease.Anyone else have any thoughts on this bargain rifle?

I've been looking for a good bolt rifle in .308 recently. Any idea if they have a model with a stainless bbl?

Mine is stainless forgot to mention that, on savages site the new Axis with stainless is 450 i believe, and the SS 20x42 scope is 299 on SS site great deal i hear from many reviews inthere that the scope easily touches a 1000 but i haven't had time to get to a 1000 yard range... My back yard only goes to about 500 and the there is woods making 1000 damn near impossible.... Thinking about just clearing the damn woods hahaha

I got one in 22-250 and I love it i been able to shoot sub moa at a 100yards im getting a 6-24x44 scope to put on top of it and see how far I can push it

I have the axis XP in .30-06 and it came with a lowed sportsman Bushnell 3-9x40mm scope and find no issues with it. I do have a Remington 700 which I put the Bushnell on and found the weight overall of the savage to be lighter than the Remington which I'll enjoy when I go deer hunting.

People bash the 770 Remington all the time. I have no problems hitting a golf ball with a 770 at 200 yards. I think most of the haters have never fired the weapon they are running down. If the haters have fired it they couldn't hit the broadside of a barn from the inside. So they need to justify the $1000 bucks they spent trying to compensate for their lack of skill.

I think they bash it because some do not function properly. I went to the range with a guy and his would jam up after he shot it. Basically he couldn't get the bolt all the way back the cartridge wouldn't come out.
