Savage axis .308

This next week I'm buying a savage axis. 308 bolt action rifle. Need help knowing what grain ammo it can take and a good scope to mount on it. Heard some complaints about some scopes getting in way of bolt lever. This is my first gun and probably the only one I'll have for the next year or so. I'm using it for precision shooting nothing fancy just something to practice with.

most scopes will have no problems clearing the bolt handle as long as it is mounted using the proper height scope rings.

as for ammo, you will just need to try out several different brands and weights to see which works the best for your rifle.

if wanting one more for target shooting, check out the Marlin XS7VH in 308. i bought one a couple of years ago, and it's very accurate and very enjoyable to shoot. MSRP is $397 vs the Savage Axis at $375. might want to check it out before buying.

Thanks for info. I'll have to check into that marlin. The savage is a Christmas present my dad is going in half with me for it so we can go shooting together.

the Savage Axis is a good rifle, plenty accurate and well made, just IMO, the Marlin is a liitle better.
