Savage Axis .243 opinions

Give me your opinions on Savage Axis .243. Thanks

Its a good gun. Accurate, light, works smooth, good fit and finish, and very versatile. IMHO its not as good as the marlin x7s for the same money. Both are very accurate w the x7 being slightly more so, both are very well made, and both will do anything you ask of em pretty much. My biggest personal problem w the axxis is the stock feels really weird and doesn't shoulder well to me.

I was just wondering because I had gotten one for my birthday and was going to take it hunting opening day which is Saturday. What round would you suggest?

Like Marlinman, think the Marlin X bolt is a better rifle. Own a couple of Marlin X bolts, two Stevens 200s and one Axis. I've listed them in order that I prefer them from best to least. Only advantage Axis has over them is its detachable magazine.

If you do buy the Axis, make sure the scope you buy can span the wide spacing of the scope mounts on it or be prepared to buy offset mounts/rings for it.

Doesn't the cor-lokt usually get good reviews.

the Savage Axis is good rifle, that is pretty accurate and well made and also decently priced.

I have had great success with the 80 grain Federal Power Shok softpoints. My father uses 100grainers. Both have done the job admirably...

Ya......them people don't know good bullets. Cor lokts don't open, explode on impact, open partially, or don't even impact cuz they explode in the air.
