I was taking a browse through the Savage website today looking at some bolt gun, and see that some of them have the Accu-Stock. I read through the article they have up about the Accu-Stock, but my firearm knowledge being what it is, most of the info in the article went right over my head. I mean, I know what the purpose of it is, its to bed the action better into the stock, but for the extra $100 that it costs for a rifle with an Accu-Stock, would it be better to buy one without it, and get it glass-bedded? Or is the Accu-Stock as good as Savage says it is? Thanks for any info.

The accustock design is not a new one. HS and McMillan both use a alum bedding system which doesn't flex and give you a very solid very stable platform for attaching a action to a stock. It is like piller bedding an action on roids. That is all that it really is. What it does is allow you to mass produce a stock that is better than say Remington's cheap Chinese injection molded SPS stocks.

I still believe a custom marinetex or accuglass bedding that is specific to your actions is the best thing you can do.

Dillinger may be able to add more than that I am sure.

I'm with tango-I don't see how it could be better than a good precision bedding job or aluminum bedding block. Where it would make sense is for the guy who just wants to buy a rifle pre bedded and where it'll shoot good out of box.

I believe the advantage is its is used to stiffen/bed cheap injection molded stocks that have a hard time taking bedding compound.
HS/ mcmillan use composite stocks made of laid up kevlar/fiberglass cloth. They are much stiffer and more stable than the cheaper&flimsier injected molded plastic stocks that come on most production rifles.
I dont think it is intended to replace the better composite stocks, but to improve the cheaper ones.

H-S Precision Stocks

If you look at the specs. ALL H-S Stocks are made with a built in Aluminum beding block.

The only differance is that the savage one uses wedge shapped blocks that act as a clamp and clamp the action to the aluminum beding block.

Thanks for all the replies guys. I kinda figured it was just a step up in the mass production field, but not as good as a glass bed job, just wanted to make sure.
