PROS-Great out of the box accuracy.
Accutrigger,IMO,One of the best factory triggers made.
Most models are available in left hand also.
Do it yourself-Caliber/Barrel changes,if you want to shoot something different. You just have to have the knowledge and the tools to do it.

CONS-Butt Ugly guns.
Factory stocks-The wood Savage uses is out of the bargin bin! The composite is very cheap and flemsy. I have heard the new Accustock is decent. The first thing I do with a Savage rifle is buy an aftermarket stock for it.
Lack a hinged floorplate on magazine on most models, but there are companies that have conversions.

Savage makes some great shooting guns, for very resonable prices. They also have good customer service and today that is a great plus. If I was going to buy a new hunting rifle it would be a Savage or a Tikka.

I have a Savage 110 Sierra in 7mm Rem Mag that I have been shooting for many years. Great rifle!

I think it is a nice looker also!

I'm not sure I've ever seen an "ugly" gun! Some guns, like dogs pick-up trucks and women, might have the beauty within....lol!!

My experiences with Savage are they are good shooters right out of the box and a good value for the money. Of course re-stock if you want....after all, little girls play with Barbie dolls don't they....same difference since you're adding another "outfit".

Savage makes a very nice and affordable shooting stick. The pros are very many to the aesthetic cons on theses rifles and Tx has mentioned the important ones. it is a damn decent rifle.

A novice or experienced individual, IMO, would be happy to have one of these sticks in their stable, in what ever caliber of their choosing.

thanks guys. ihave had and passed on many rifles due to falling on hard times. i have moved back to wa and need to get another long rifle. i think the savage 111 is where i'll go. is the accutrigger worth the extra $? like i said only as a hunting weapon.

buddy of mine bought a basically brand new savage for 150 bucks. decent simmons scope on it. the only thing I dont like about it is no clip, the forearm is a little wide for my taste and its a bit heavier than im used to.

Mine is pre accu-trigger. All new Savage high power rifles have accu-trigger I believe.

the non accutrigger is still made. the price is about $115.00 less without it. is it worth it for a hunting rifle?

NavyChief,I would personally get the Accutrigger model, but if you can't afford it now,I know a gunsmith that will install an Accutrigger if you want one at a later date for under $100 including the trigger.
