Savage 110 fcp hs .338 lapua
Hey guys,
I've been thinking about getting a .338 lapua for some time now and it's apparent that most rifles are starting at the $3000 - $4000 mark. I stumbled upon the savage 110 FCP HS witch has a remarkably lower price. I've done a little research on it and it sounds great for the cost of around $1400. Is this a good investment or sould I look into something else?

Savage rifles are about the best investment per dollar.
Their barrels are exceptionally accurate, the bolts are smooth and easy to operate. You can't go wrong.

Savage rifles are fine, but you seem to be looking for less expensive. What will you do about optics? Also what is the felt recoil of the Savage compared to a $3000.00 rifle? What about the Edge or RUM. Either may suit your needs and be cheaper to shoot. A 20 round box of Lapua Match ammo goes for 150.00 and over. Hunting ammo about $120.00. The RUM is about $79.00 for hunting ammo. Your looking to save on the platform, without handling one, but did you think of the cost of optics or actually shooting it??

Price isn't too big of a problem I was just interested cause of the vast difference. And i read a comparison to a steyr ssg08 and accuracy was just a tad lower but all other aspects were exceptional. Also I load my own ammo. As far as optics go I have a vortex pst 6-24x50 ffp witch I believe would do the trick. I've took other calibers into consideration but .338 lapua seems pretty solid for +1000 yard shooting.

Bear in mind also, that scopes that will do justice to the .338 LaPua's capabilities will START at around $1500.
I'd look at Ziess, (not the Conquest, but a REAL Ziess) or perhaps Swarovski or Schmidt & Binder.

The savage .338's are 1 - 1 1/2 moa. So...keep that in mind.

Not exactly up to the standards of Accuracy International, of course, but not bad at all for an "el cheapo."

The vortex will work for now but I would like to step it up to a Schmidt & Binder

I use a nightforce for my .338. Works great.
