sako 85 inquire

i have now decided to get a sako 85 in a .308 but can not decide betwenn the ss or the finnlight. what is your opinion on these two rifle, is the fluting barrel that much better. i think the difference in wieght was like 3/9 vs 5/9.

thank for your time and help

ostensibly the purpose of fluting is to increase the surface area of the barrel with the intent of faster cooling. if your using it just for hunting at ranges under 300 yards there is no discernable benefit to a heavier barrel. most hunting situations is a single shot at an animal that is not aware of your presence.

heavier barrels give better accuracy when combined with many other elements and lots of practice by the shooter. hunters usually sacrifice such things in favor of a lighter weapon.

Just buy the one that you like the most. :)

Finnlight is two pounds less. It's the one I'd buy if you're going to be carrying it while hunting.
