Default S&w m&p 15 sport or sks?

Hello everyone im looking for a beginner rifle in either 762x39 or 556 today i was looking at a s&w m&p 15 sport ar15 for 700$! Then i was also looking at a nice chinese all original good condition chinese sks for 399$ the reason i dont want an ak is beacuse they are 700$ and up same as the ar15 and id rather just buy an ar15 first for that price so for your first rifle would you rather have an sks or ar15? Im going to end up owning all 3 but wich should i buy first?

I'd rather have an AR any day over the SKS (and I have both). But I wouldn't get the Sport because there are so many other ARs in the universe!

Another vote for the Smith & Wesson AR.

i own the S&W m&p 15 sport......it is one fine gun at a very good price point, backed by a great company, made in the US....made me an AR fan, never thought it could happen....

easy choice imo.....

here's a good review on the sport...

Have a Sport and an SKS, would only go with the SKS if there was some serious ammo consideration or legal issue with the AR style. I keep the SKS cause there is an ATV rifle holder on the fender of our tractor and very few rifles I'm willing to risk in it.

Both are fine rifles. Id go with the S&W Sport over the SKS though. $399 is a little high for an SKS, but the Sport is (IMO) the best AR for under $800 you can buy off the shelf.

Ill have to save up a little more for the s&w ar, i have the money now to get the sks, should i just save up and get a mil spec ar15 Instead? does the sw mp15 sport perform like a mil spec rifle? Does it even matter? Im not going to jump in the mud with it or anything but if ww3 were to happen id want to be able to bet my life on it! Haha
