Ruger Target Gray Rifle, Which Projectiles ?

Hello, I am about to purchase a new Ruger target gray rifle ( 26 inch heavy barrel ) in 25-06 calibre. As I reload I am about to purchase some projectiles, Ive been looking at the Hornady 100grain interlock spire point and the Sierra 100grain spire point boattails, as some of the shooting will be long range- around 400 to 500 meters. I like the Sierra Boattails but I have read in some forums that the Ruger Target gray rifles do not like boatail projectiles ??? Is there any truth in this ?? I plan to use Winchester brass along with Winchester 760 powder and the fedral 215 magnum primer, Thanks Jamie. Australia.

You might also get some nosler ballistic tips and try them as I've never seen a rifle that didn't shoot them at least reasonably well. The sierra gamekings are excellent bullets as well. I wouldn't limit myself to just 1 powder however.

Hello, I once used Nosler Ballistic tips in a 308 a few years back on pigs and have never used them since, I found they blew up like hollow points ! They did not penetrate deeply as a hunting bullet should, Im a fan of the Nosler Partition or the old Spire point solid base. I think I will use the Hornady 100grain Interlock spire point projectiles as I prefer the old lead tip projectiles, can any-one give me a couple of loads to try along with M/V ??? Thanks Jamie.

Rifles are like a box of chocolate you never know what its going to like until you try them out.

Buy 1 box of each bullet you want to try and laod them up and shoot them. See which one offers the bst accuracy and go with it.

My Ruger loved NBT's it was a 220 swift and more than a few California Ground Squirrels got blowed the hell up with them. I like the 50gr ones moving at about 3700 to 3800 fps over a good shot of IMR 4064 or IMR 4895.
