Ruger m77 or winchester 70
In y'all's opinion which is the better overall gun. The ruger m77 or Winchester 70?

What generation M77? What generation Win. 70? Are you gonna shoot them as is or mod them? I have an original 77 and for a sturdy rifle with acceptable accuracy for a deer gun it's fine. Rugers angle attachment stock does not lend itself to bedding and let's face it, the factory barrels on most Rugers just aren't target grade. Have a USRAC Win. 70 and after I threw the factory stock and scope mounts in the trash it has been the Shiznit. With a Choate Varmint stock and DNZ rings along with a decent factory trigger it's become a favorite.

I'd take a Winchester 70 over any Ruger 77 ever made. The Winchester is a better rifle in any comparison.

I have a Winchester 70 also and I would not sell or trade it for a million dollars .
But I have heard that the actions on a Ruger's are smooth as silk. But I really don't know that for sure cause I have only shot one time at some hogs.

I like them both, but I'd rather have a pre-64 Winchester Model 70 in .375 H&H, than about any other production rifle from the U.S. I think my custom '98 Czech Mauser in 7mm Remington Magnum , is all the rifle I will need in the lower 48 states. Most depends on your own preference, shoot what you can and go from there. Have fun deciding.

love my 70 the 77 did not feel anywhere near as nice. My 308 Featherweight delivers impressive accuracy.

My Winchester 70 XTR Featherweight .30-06 has been my hunting rifle for a long time.

Beats Ruger by a mile/.

Same here, I have had a Winchester 70, 30.06 since about 1971, I would not trade or sell it for any other.

Anyone know where to get high quality rifle cleaning kits for a custom 26" bolt

hard choice for me to make and would depend on the years of the rifles in question.

i first learned to shoot on an older Winchester M70 and thought that was the ultimate rifle to own and shoot. i still have a love of the older M70's and always will. the one my father still owns, that he bought new in about 1969 or 1970 is still to this day a very accurate rifle.

years later, when i got into buying my own rifles, i had a close friend that let me shoot his older Ruger M77. i fell in love all over again! i have owned many of those older Ruger M77's in various calibers and have dearly loved all of them. some people say they don't think the older Rugers are as accurate as the older Winchesters, but i have had very good luck with each one i have ever owned and IMO, put them at pretty much an equal level.

either one IMO would be a great rifle if talking about the older ones. just my preference.
