Hello all,
I'm going hog hunting soon and have been looking for rifles. Shot a hog last year with the Armalite AR in 223 and was less than spectacular. 7 shots to put one down.

OK, now, I have a Marlin 1895SS in 45/70 that ofcourse would be great. But, I am in the mood for a new rifle. Something easy to carry and manuever in the brush with. Was contemplating a Remington 7600 Carbine in 30-06, or even a 450 Bushmaster, but I keep running into these Ruger 77 Compacts and Frontiers. What a handy little rifle! I had been looking for something with quick repeat shots, but a hog shot w/ a .308 Win should not need too much more. I looked at a Ruger Frontier yesterday at Cabella's with a forward mounted scope and I fell in love. Too bad that one was in 300 WSM. I don't want to be anywhere near a 16" barreled 300 short mag when it goes off. I bet the blast would be obnoxious to say the least. Would do you guys think of one of these rifles in 308 for hogs?
