I asked around on the Ruger American .308 or .30-06; but, the word I got was, it will be awhile before we see them in on the shelves.

i had my hands on one yesterday in .30-06, this shop had them listed at $369 i think (by comparison, they have savage axis' for $329). they had an m77 right above it & after handling both right after the other, it's hard to believe that the same company made both rifles. i'm not saying it's a crappy gun or anything, just not up to the ruger fit & finish i'm used to seeing. basically, it felt like i was holding my savage axis.

like mentioned above, it felt like a .223 gun, not something that would fire a .30-06

A small chain of gun stores in Houston area called Carters had only the 30-06 American in stock to sell a couple of weeks ago. Another much larger chain of sporting goods store, that has locations across the South, Academny Sports and Outdoors, is supposed to be receiving their first American rifles to sell in another week or so. This is based on a recent conversation I had with a clerk in one of their stores who'd checked their warehouse for them after I asked about the rifle. Think Academny guy said their system showed selling price of $370 or $380, forget which.
