And in .30-06, expect some hefty recoil in such a light rifle. My vote would go towards a Rem 700 but Im very biased. Lol.
The pic didn't look like an axis though.

Just search google and you will find articles about the freedom group ****ing up great lines of guns. Even the truth about guns has an article about the freedom group killing the quality of every make of gun they buy. Here is why the freedom group is selling out and the screw ups after the Marlin acquisition is the financial reason. http://www.brandchannel.com/home/post/2012/12/19/Gun-Fans-Cheer-Bushmaster-Sale-121912.aspx

It is a Savage Axis SR(Silencer Ready)

Local gunsmith makes and fits the muzzle brake.

Dont stand at side when this fires, flash is nasty.

Without brake , its in the same price range as Marlin and Ruger.
It will shoot 5 rounds into connecting holes at 150 yds.

I like em all, but Im partial to Savage.

Personally I would chose a ruger, great rugged rifle, accurate and reliable and it won't break the bank

I was thinking about getting a Ruger American in .223, but can't seem to find one with iron sights. I can only find it with scope mounts. Can it be modified for iron sights? If not, is there a comparable bolt action with iron sights in .223?

The American rifle don't come in any model with iron sights but I'm pretty sure that it can be modified, the Remington 770 I think can come with iron sights and I'm positive that the 700 comes with them
