Odds are in our lifetimes a major shtf won't happen. One asteroid is all it takes, it has happened thousands of times in the earths past. One more plague. Like I said, odds are it won't happen soon.

Spoken like a true indoctinated enlisted man. A proud one. To be sent over the top first. The only worse attitude would be from the cops who think they're above the law as well as citizens and are deluded to think they're always gonna be the hammer and never the anvil. Until bad stuff goes down and then you see what happens...

I'll stick with the Founding Fathers, thank you very much: military dictatorships and police states are bad, ummkayyy. Oh, and in case other E-somethings haven't noticed, which is likely, Hussein Obama was only passively purging the officer corps in his first term. Now it's his second term and Petraeus ain't making a comeback, again...

I also have several hundred 12 gauge rounds (mixture of slugs and game shot)

I have various other calibers, but those 3 are what I would "stock up on" for "SHTF" scenarios

.22 because it's good for hunting and CAN be used for self defense against a casual threat

.223 for the more than casual threat and its abundant nature

shotgun shells for more than a casual threat (slugs for the big big threats)

I'm far from an expert...that's just the course i've decided to take.

Also stocking up on cheap liquor...if SHTF, alcohol will be a very nice trading commodity, and I Don't want to trade off the good **** =)

How come no one has mentioned pistol ammo? I'm currently considering a bulk order of Hornady Critical Duty in 9mm &/or 40.

Wouldn't that be expensive?

Well, yes. Depending on how you look at it. Both 9mm & 40 - $280/500, free shipping. Expensive, but way cheaper than can be had at the LGS. And the 9mm stuff is hard to find right now.
