rifle suggesstion
 

I am looking at buying a new 308 bolt action rifle. I want something in a synthetic stock or an A or AA grade wood stock with stainless steel barrel. Using it for hunting and target shooting(just for fun) around 200-300m. I am just after suggestion on which brand and model to buy, I am looking at spending between $800 - $1500.

A Howa HB Varminter would fit the bill. You could also buy their barreled action and buy a stock yourself.

x2. on the x-bolt. Ive ultimately decided to get the Stainless stalker x-bolt. Planned on getting the Special hunter, but hunting hogs in the swamp with my buddies has made up my mind, that a wooden stock and a blued barrell will just not work for me.

what do you guy think of styer and sako 85!! i was also looking at the x bolt and a winchester model 70.

I would probably recommed Savage, Hawa, Remington. So many bolts?

If you want a semi-auto I would look:
1 a used Ruger model 44.
2 Remington model 7400 series, 74, 740, 742.
3 Browning Bar magnum
4 Ruger 99/44 Deerfield
5 Benelli R1 (only 30-06)
