Got a Mosin Nagant after I saw this poor baby at the Gun Cellar in Alabama
Someone tried to sportorize it...and most of the stock is missing.
It's an m44...and the bayonet has been sawn off
Cost me 40 bucks so I said screw it.
I'm thinking about finding a polymer stock since the wood is basically crap now....and turning it into a scout rifle replacing the iron sights...or what do you guys suggest?
Tula Russian model of 1945
Even has the communist logo on it as well as a bunch of other symbols
Some T looking letter then a W looking thing...followed by 6794
What do you think? Smart buy?
Also I think someone ducked taped something to the barrel...seems like they were trying to offset the weight to make the recoil lesser....or...hell in some places...it looks like they put flashlights and laser sights on it.
It's dirty.....and hell It might not be worth a damn to shoot...but for 40 bucks I'll take it and clean it up real good....cycles like a dream....and the bore looks good as far as I know maybe not cleaned though...the bolt is really brown on the knob...but I'm thinking I'll buy a new full bolt for this later on in life.
40 bucks is a good deal if she shoots. Give 'er a squeeze with that lightened stock and let us know how that feels! Congrats on the new piece! Id throw a replacement wood stock and keep her original as possible.
Eh...well I'm not a big fan of the m44...I just bought this one because she felt good and didn't hurt the wallet. And I know it shoots because the guys checked it...now well...I'm not sure.
That lightened stock would probably slam my arm off becasue of how it's taken apart.....specially with the bayo off too.
If the barrel is good then I'll turn it into a hunting rifle.
Eh...just looked down the barrel....the rifling looks spot on...but I see no shinyness now that I'm at home. Hoping it just needs a good cleaning and that it's not rust from corrosive ammo.
Please JZ, once you've found the bubba, beat him senseless with the old stock. Us C&R guys die a bit every time we see something like that.
Do it. For the children.......
At this point you might as well sporterize it. The bayonet's gone and the stock is ruined.
Besides I don't think that sporterizing such a firearm (one in this shape) is sacralidge, rather it is paying tribute to a design that is over 100 years old by showing that it is still relevant today.
What's wrong with the bolt that's on there now? It's a pretty rugged design.
Yeah, Bubba is alive and well. Still finding Enfields that he "worked on". Take a look around over at gunpartscorp.com, they have parts- but it will cost you more than a new rifle to put it back together- but they DO have a fairly nice looking hardwood sporter stock-

Well I want to turn it into a hunting rifle.
Wood may be best since you can refinish that...repaint it...etc....but then I also like polymer because it'll give it that Sniper Scout rifle look.
I want this rifle to be able to kill deer as well as humans if need be.
And while I like the sporter look...I need something that will fight recoil and be a blessing to shoot.

I'm going to try to turn it into this.....but probably not the same scope mount...I've seen a few nice rail mounts that replace the back sight...and then also if the scope bites it you can still use the base as a rear sight.
Imma get a camo monte carlo stock though.
Would a compensator be a good buy and which one sould I buy?
I like the Scout rifle idea. A comp or muzzle brake would help with recoil at the expense of making a loud rifle even louder (with most such devices). To mount a comp will probably require the threading of the muzzle. To thread the muzzle you would have to remove the barrel. To remove the barrel off a gun that old that has likely had many rounds of corrosive ammo fired through it will be a chore.
An alternative might be this:

It is an AK-74 style brake that will undoubtedly be LOUD!
Check that....I have found some references to these flying off after 1-2 shots.
