the SPS took the place of the ADL. use to be you could get an ADL , BDL and CDL in wood stocks, now only way to get the wood stocked Remington is the BDL and the CDL. such a shame to, as i had several wood stocked ADL's over the years. i have one 204 Ruger synthetic stocked ADL, that is fixing to get a wood stock. MSRP on the cheapest SPS is over $700, with means about $550-650 at a dealer, still twice the cost of a Marlin X7 or Savage Axis. of course a person could do what i do, keep an eye out for them at the pawn shops and gun stores used. i picked up an older Remington ADL with an aftermarket walnut stock in 270 Win. a few months ago, for $360+ tax. refinished it, and now it looks better than brand new.

Compared to a 770, a Rem 788 is an engraved Holland & Holland. The 770 is junk by any reasonable definition. It makes a Bic lighter look like a solid gold Dunhill. Low price is no excuse; the Savage Axis and the Marlin XS/XL 7 are FAR better rifles at similar cost.

well said natman! i agree.

jared, i still take the Savage Axis over the 770 though. but i do like the Marlins over the Savage's. the ergonomics on the Marlins fit me better, plus i'm not a big fan of detachable magazines on a bolt action rifle.

they are probably leftover stock, because the SPS took the place of the ADL. look on Remington's website and you will see that they have been discontinued. i too liked the wood stocked ADL's as they were fine rifles. my thinking is Remington probably decided to stock the ADL's in synthetic and call them SPS's and drop the wood stocks with the exception to the BDL and the CDL line due to costs. synthetics are easier and cheaper to make than wood stocks.
