I've read and seen some advertising on the 783 that looked favorable, but for me if I could buy a 700 at around the same cost? I would buy the 700,there's just so much more aftermarket for the 700 compared to a new rifle on the block the 783 with no aftermarket support?

I'm a long time Remington hunting firearms fan(over 40 years) from rimfire, shotguns, and centerfire rifles. When I saw a model 770 I was really disappointed in what I saw? I sure hope the 783 is a big improvement over the 770.

Good luck on your rifle quest.

For many years I was a die hard Remington fan, but truth be told they have changed and not for the good. My last THREE Remington firearms were all defective and I have sworn them off for good, I will not waste another penny on any of their firearms when now there are better rifles out there for less money. My Tikka, Savages, and my new (FN) Winchester 70 will shoot circles around even the good Remingtons I have owned in the past. Only Remington I would even look at is a pre APR 07 (when they sold their soul to the devil) 700 or a 1960s Model 600 (always loved that gun)
Better choices in new rifles on a budget nowadays are the Savage 110s, Ruger American (a total Savage knockoff but a good one) and the Stevens. Just my $.02

Is the Remington 783 just a re-branded version of the Marlin X7 (they are both owned by The Freedom Group)?

the Freedom Group owns both companies and Remington owns Marlin, but they are still seperate companies.

the 783 looks more like an updated M770 with a Savage style barrel nut. look at the action and you can see the similarities in it.

IMO, the M783 is butt ugly. the Marlin X7 series looks great in comparison. life is too short to own butt ugly guns!

Still looking for a 783 but can't seem to find one yet.
