That makes me feel some what better. Lol. I went and bought a tasco scope for 65 bucks. 3x9x40. Guy said for what I was doing this would work perfectly and wouldn't have to spend what I thought I would have to spend. I'm happy about that.

So I am at the gym and told one of my power lifting team mates that I bought my new savage axis .30-06 and this guy from no where tells me that's a ***** round and said I should have went with a 300w mag. Lets say I ripped this dude a new one and he wound up apologizing. I have a bad temper. I know it shouldn't have bothered me but I have more testosterone running through me then the average person. Lol. I just get tired of people saying I should have gone with a bigger round but I live in the Central Valley of California and there isn't anything around here that a .30-06 can't take down with ease so why would I need a bigger caliber.

If you're not shooting over 200 yds then you definitely don't need 300wm. That's more for 1000 yd targets. Some guys just think you need the biggest cartridge their testosterone soaked egos have ever heard about. I'm surprised he didn't suggest 338 Lapua.
Plus 30-06 is on the shelf at most gun shops where .308 is hard to come by right now.

Lol. I agree. That's all I'm sure the guy talks about and all he knows. I'm gonna be hunting in forest so I won't have a clearing of 300 plus yards. Ill have clearing of 30 to 100 yards max.

Thanks. Gonna pick it up Friday. I'm happy someone else appreciates a .30-06.

hate the 30-06 round! worst caliber ever invented! only wuss's shoot them instead of a 338 Win. Mag.!

just kidding! 30-06 is fine and dandy caliber and i am sure you will like it just fine. i have had many rifles in 30-06 over the years and have enjoyed pretty much all of them. now a deeper appreciation comes for the 30-06 when you start reloading for it. even with the factory ammo selection available, (and there is huge selection out there!) you have even more options available to you. good luck and enjoy it.

It's gonna be a fun gun. That's for sure. Always exciting getting a new firearm.
