The gun is solid as the day is long - that's why we chose it over Savage or Ruger American - the 783 is definitely built for the hunt. The question is will it last? Time will tell. But this outshoots my 700 in 30-06. This rifle reminds me of the 870 express - gets the job done, tough but nothing to display over your fireplace.
Nice! I'm taking my custom out today for my first shot. It's .300 win mag. I kinda went overboard on cost but I got top of the line now

Looking at the people posting about 2" or bigger groups with a 770. I bought my mosin nagant for $200, a bit more then I wanted to pay, and on the first outing at about 50 yards, just making sure it shot, and not having much experience with iron sights, I got a 2" group standing like I would hunting. Now I'm sure if I was trying for accuracy and more experienced with iron sights I could have made a tighter group, also this isn't the norm for a m91/30.

All I'm saying is with my 74 year old Russian rifle, not trying, I got the same or better groups then your 770. Doesn't that sound just a little wrong to you?

yes it does! one would think that a modern hunting rifle would have better accuracy that an old Russion military bolt action rifle. sadly, mine and the others i have shot were just not up to the task.

after owning a M770 and getting rid of it, i would own an old Mosin Nagant rifle before ever owning another M770!

Here's my mosin nagant m91/30 made in '39 with a brass Stacker that I just put on Monday. The shotgun scope on it doesn't have a long enough eye relief so I need a pistol scope.
