About 6 months ago I was looking to get back into hunting and wanted a new cheap rifle to get started with. I have mostly older military rifles. I saw an ad for the Remington 783 and that was the gun I wanted. I searched for that gun in the guns stores but could never find one. I looked at the 770 and played with the bolt. I knew right then this gun wasn't for me. It made no since for a brand new gun to have a sloppy bolt that would stick and was loose to the point you couldn't close the bolt by pushing the bolt forward. I ended up buying the gun next to it which was a Savage 111. Since then I have come across a Remington 783. I will tell you that the 783 is built alot better then the 770. The bolt was smooth and it felt solid compared to the 770. If I had ro pick which one to get it would deffinately be the 783. Its sad when you have rifles that are over 100 years old that will cycle the bolt smoother then a brand new rifle and have less slop in the bolt.

That's more like it. Axxe this is sort of off topic but obviously I know you have knowledge of long guns. With a psa ar 15 bench rest 100 yards with scope what is a pretty good grouping or something to expect? Not looking for expert well I am but I know I'm not there yet.

wouldn't have a clue. depends on too many factors. barrel, trigger, quality of the build, the purpose of the build, scope and scope set-up, ect., ect.,,,,,

every AR can have a different level of accuracy. there are just too many different variables to guage or make a blanket statement or estimated guess as to how accurate one will be and what group sizes it will make at a specific distance.

Here's a 200 meter (219 yd) pair of 3 shot groups. Remington 783 .270 WIN

The gun is solid as the day is long - that's why we chose it over Savage or Ruger American - the 783 is definitely built for the hunt. The question is will it last? Time will tell. But this outshoots my 700 in 30-06. This rifle reminds me of the 870 express - gets the job done, tough but nothing to display over your fireplace.
