Remington 742 Help

Need some help. Need to change the extractor, replace the ejector port cover, and clean everything out real good. Can anyone help me with the disassembly. Talked to a local gunsmith today and he basically refused to work on it. So i figured as many rim fires and bolt actions i have worked on i might as well give it a try on this one. Its not much good to me the way it is. Just looking for some pointers. Thanks

Obsolete Shotgun Manuals - Obsolete Hunting Manuals - Request Obsolete Remington Manuals

Try that. Remington has been very good to me, and the manuals are free.

Oh- tips- when taking anything apart, take a few digital photos BEFORE taking anything apart. Spring loaded stuff should be taken apart inside of a 1 gallon plastic bag. When something goes SPROING you don't spend the next hour looking for it.

I've had a couple of them. I used the Gun Digest book of semi automatic rifles to fiddle with them. They're a great reference and pretty simple to follow if you have a bit of skill.

To remove the bolt, you have to remove the barrel first. Brownells has a barrel wrench especially for these. They are a PITA to take apart.
