DefaultRemington 7400 .270win

A friend of mine has one for sale and I was considering buying it.
I did a quick search to see any info. I had heard of problems with the 742 and such.
This guy is trustworthy and says he has never had an issue with the Rifle. So my question...Is it worth $350?
Comes with Scope and sling. Nothing Special.

I currently have no Hunting Rifle. Could this fill that void?

I have a 7400 Carbine in .30-06. It will shoot 1 1/2" groups all day with decent ammo. The worst part is the trigger. Pretty much an 870 trigger, not a rifle trigger. Cleaning requires a pull through kit and a bunch of gun scrubber. You cannot remove the bolt w/o removing the barrel.

$350...Buy it.

I've had a lot of 742/7400 come to me over the years for repair. Usually for a good cleaning of the gas system. If it functions perfectly, go for it. I would try to get him down a tad though.

Don't know much about the 7400 but I still have a 742 in .30-06 that i bought about 25 years ago. It always functioned quite reliably and is accurate and made a good deer rifle for years. It was about $185 then so I suppose $350 for the newer 7400 with attachments would be a fair deal if the rifle is in good shape.

I have had a 7400 and an older 742, both in .30-06. They were pretty accurate and they were dependable. My only caveat is that you do not use hot loads in it, they will mess it up. Other than that, shoot away. The price is about right if it's really nice.

Btw, .270 is a nice flat shooting round.
