A .30-06 is going to be massive overkill for shooting 100 yards. I am not even sure that big cartridge is going to be 100% stable by the time it hits the target.... LOL
What kind of shooting? Target? Or hunting?
Popular? Probably something like a .308 or a .243 or even a .223.
Short action rifles, ammo is good at the 100 yard distances and you don't have to take the magnum abuse of one of the larger calibers.
The 700 long actions are a bit thin, but the short actions are good in those calibers. Remington is far from my favorite action, but the short action is a good action that anyone can customize for you.
What would the intended purpose of the rifle be?
