can i use the same extractor from the remington 700 on my 721 i cant find it on any website except for the 700

I'm pretty sure it'll fit. At the most a slight amount of fitting may be required.

It has NOTHING to do with overloading. If I had a 100$ bill for every Remington extractor I've had to replace or convert over to Sako style extractor (upgrade at time of repair), I could buy a Harley with cash. The bottom line is I only see firearms when they're "broke" so have a LOT of my opinions based on that. Sooner or later-when you accumulate enough experience with enough of them, you'll begin to see the weak areas. Patience grasshopper.

I was thinking of picking up a 700, but the problem is there is no where to shoot around here that goes past 100 yards. I am in CT. Would 30-06 be a good round for the 700. What is the most popular, and why?

A .30-06 is going to be massive overkill for shooting 100 yards. I am not even sure that big cartridge is going to be 100% stable by the time it hits the target.... LOL

What kind of shooting? Target? Or hunting?

Popular? Probably something like a .308 or a .243 or even a .223.

Short action rifles, ammo is good at the 100 yard distances and you don't have to take the magnum abuse of one of the larger calibers.

The 700 long actions are a bit thin, but the short actions are good in those calibers. Remington is far from my favorite action, but the short action is a good action that anyone can customize for you.

What would the intended purpose of the rifle be?

Well in CT you cannot hunt with a rifle, so it would be 90% Target and then say if I went north to ppls land I know it would be whitetale deer.

If you are limited on size and your can only shoot 100 yards. Did I hear RIMFIRE? Get your self 3 guns a 22lr, 22Mag, and a 17hmr. That would provide you with penty of rifle in that range for plinking and what not.

Those would be nice on the wallet, but I was hoping for something with a little knock-down power.
