Vette, you might also take a look at the Rem 700 Mil spec 5R, though it has a 24" heavy barrel. I am having two of my Mil specs a .308 and the .223 bedded today and will also install a Jewell trigger in the .308.
I have had good luck with the new X-Mark Pro triggers on the .223 and the .300 Win Mag, but the .308 would just not adjust as light as I wanted. It can't be adjusted any more than Remington provided you with. They epoxy the internal adjustments so it renders it useless.
These are extremely accurate rifles right out of the box especially with good glass. My .308 wears a Nightforce NXS 3.5-15X50 zero stop

Look, go to the Hide (Snipers Hide websitge) go to the listings for rifles for sale and buy a used one already set up in .308 Win. and be done with it. You can rebarrel in the future for .260 Rem. when the barrel you get in .308 wears out, which will take a long time. Get your skills down on relatively cheap .308 Win. target ammo if you don't reload, then change up to .260 Rem. when you need to rebarrel. Just my .02 cents worth form my limited experience in 1000 plus yard shooting.

My brother is right handed in everything that is until you put a rifle in his hand then he is left handed. So there are people out there that do it. BTW he shoots right handed guns all the time.
