Im looking to buy a 300 win mag...And I just wanted to see what everyone thought about it. And how accurate is it... |

Frist, welcome to the community. Second, maybe stop in the intoduction section and tell us a little about yourself. Third, the Remmy 700 is as accurate as you can shoot. Which 700 are you looking to buy, I don't mean caliber. BDL, CDL... __________________ From C3Shooter:

It is a accurate long range round with a relaitvely flat trajectory good for big game hunting and long range shooting. It's maximun effitive range is out to 1200 + yards. Somewhat of a recoil beast but really not much more recoil than a .30-06. A popular round for Big Horn Sheep and Elk due to it's long range performance.
The Remington 700 platform is also good. Many aftermarket goodies available for this rifle.
I'm in the process of having a .300 Win. Mag. Remmy 700 built for 1000 yard target shooting. I have shot this rifle out of the box, while waiting for the target barrel to be finished, and it delivers sub MOA groups at least until the stock barrel gets too hot. This will happen to any stock hunting barrel, however, after about 10 or 12 rounds back to back.
I bought the Remington 700 SPS which is the least expensive model they make as my intentions were to harvest the reciever only for my target rifle build. If I were to buy one to use as is for hunting, I would buy one of their better garde 700 models. | |

Which model?? And for what purpose??
The .300 Win Mag is an excellent round. It will kill just about everything in the continental US.
The current Remington Long Actions? Not so much in my opinion.

Now this is just a suggestion that a few people on here asked me to consider. What do you want to do with this rifle? There is a hell of a lot of difference between shooting paper at 1000+ yards which i am sure a 3oowm will do, and shooting varmints out to 4-500yards. I came here a few months ago with intentions of having a 700 built in 300wm until i started considering a few things, i didnt have a range anywhere near me where i could utilize the 300wm capabilities, the biggest thing i can legally hunt with a rifle in Illinois is Coyotes. I wanted to be ultra taticool like everyone else and shoot a custom built 700 in 300wm with a 2500 dollar nightforce scope, but when i considered the 5000+ dollar price tag for rifle and scope alone i started to consider what i need rather than what looks cool. I went for a savage in 223  | |

^^^ Plus a BIG ONE on that post. That sounds like a guy who came in with one set of ideas, got some information, and then got a rifle to fit the situation that he had available to him....
And a member that is welcome to stop by and shoot my 1,000 yard tacticool 7mm mag rifle anytime he is in the area.

hopefully someday i can use my children's college monies on taticool rifle systems but until then ill shoot what fits my needs.
I may take u up on that if i ever end up out west | |

The .300 win. mag. is a great choice for open country big game. If thats your application get it in the new XHR 700. | |
