Rem 770 vrs Savage Axis

After all the help with my post on the Remington 770, I ended up doing some trading at a show and got a Winchester model 94. However, I still needed a quality replacement for the 770? I found it "the Savage Axis"... I collect guns. My quest was to find a "easy on the pocket" 30-06 for my collection and to loan to buddies that come to hunt with me on short notice. What are your comments on my find and my opinion?

The Savage Axis is a fine choice, and will meet your needs of easy on the pocket and a loaner for buddies. Once you shoot it, you will be surprised with how well it shoots. There is room for improvement on the trigger, but it is a hunting rifle. :)

First of all, you did very well in getting rid of your Remington 770 and getting a Winchester 94. You will have a lot of fun shooting that 94 and it can be effectively used for many things. The Savage Axis will be a great choice as a rifle for what you wanted the Rem 770 to be. You are doing good. Good luck.

The Savage is a good shoice. I picked up one in 22-250 at a gun show. First, the trigger is loosy, but I made it alot better by just cutting 2 turn off the trigger spring. The right wat to fix it is to though is to put a set screw in the trigger and cut the spring down to where you can adjust it, I`ll get around to that one day. The one I got is a real good shooter and the stock is good and stiff unlike some of the other cheap rifles.

i just picked up the Axis xp with the youth stock in .243 caliber for my nephew to practice with for next hunting season. I have a savage bolt action in 22WSM and was impressed with its quality and price so I picked up the Axis. The scope was way off out of the box, like 1.5ft at 75yds but after a few rounds and dialing, it holds great grouping at that distance. Even though its a youth stock, I like its shortness for the tree stand and price cant be beat.
