Default Recoil pads and gun values?

Just wondering if you folks steer clear of purchasing firearms that are missing factory butt plates. Does a red rubber recoil pad decrease value appreciably?

I'm looking at a used Marlin 336 (gold trigger) in .35 - appears clean except for the recoil pad. It's not like 336's bring big money but how much does this generally effect resale value?

Thanks

If its a well done job, I would look at it as a positive on that rifle.

If it was fitted perfectly it wouldn't bother me at all. It's the cobbled together jobs that give me the heebie jeebies.
