Default recoil check noise

I have an Armalite M4C carbine with a recoil check permanently attached the way it was made. The design of the recoil check directs the gas back and also directs the noise back. Since it is so loud, I am wondering if there is some modification I can make to it so that it will be less noisey? TYIA
