Default Range Question

What would be the farthest range to take out a deer with a .357 levergun while ensuring a quick kill? When it comes to my rifleman skills, I'm great with an M16A2/AR15 and don't have a lot of experience with any other sights. That said, with whatever I get, I'll practice until I can humanely put down a deer at the range you folks suggested.
