Questions about the Remington 783.

My cousin is looking for a new rifle, but doesn't know what caliber he wants. He might be thinking about hunting later down the road. He's looking at the Remington rifles. If I could get some info from the FTF professionals and relay some suggestions and even if it might be another brand. He was looking at 30-06 or .308, but there are sooo many different calibers out there now.

Far from a pro at anything, but I just bought a howa that seems really nice. I love savages and the Mossberg MVP is a great rifle. They're making the MVP in a 308 now too. As for calibers, it all just depends on what he plans on hunting. For me, I like short action so out of the two you named I would go with the 308.

Just seen you're from Indiana, if he plans on hunting deer don't you have to use a shotgun or muzzle loader? If he plans on hunting deer and that is the case I would def urge him to buy a shotgun...

Wait around, someone with more experience will most likely show up soon and will be able to give you better information.

look up some posts made by Chloeshooter. h just bought one of the M783 in 270 i believe and is very happy with it.

i have handled the M783 and think it's a drastic improvement over the M770 i believe it will end up replacing. appears much better made and better handling as well.

Thanks Axxe!!! That's a great thread.:). I have caliber question and I know it's up to the person shooting. Is there a "big" difference from the .270, 30-06, and .308. I only know pricing for the 30-06, so is there much price difference for the other calibers? That's again for the help.:D

i am not sure about the M783 as far as pricing, but most rifle within a type of model are usually priced about the same, regardless of caliber.

so a 30-06, a 270 and a 308 in that rifle should be about the same price.

for most people that hunt, any of those three calibers will work just fine. if i had to start all over again and pick one of the three, i would probably go with the 30-06.
