@Txhillbilly so basically I shouldn't get this one? Guess I'm back to square one haha. Maybe I'll pick up a American from Dicks Sporting Goods for $370 chambered in .270 WIN, unless there are any good used rifles that I should keep my eyes open for.
I'd pass on the Ruger, but that's my opinion.
If your wanting an entry level rifle that will last you for many years, and shoot great look at the Howa or Weatherby Vanguard (same rifle),Marlin XL series,Savage 10/110 or any of the other # series,Tikka T3,or Remington 700.
You can find some good deals on used rifles if you do your homework, and look around. Plus you can find some good deals on new rifles when they are on sale.

Boyds makes some excellent aftermarket laminated wood stocks, and they run around $100,so if you can find a deal on a Savage with the cheap plastic stock, just buy a new stock for it and you'll be good to go.

The vanguard is about $200 dollars more expensive though, and that's a lot to a 18 year old college freshman. R700's are abit expensive too. I would really like to have a rifle ready to hunt (glass, sling, etc) for under 500.

Under 500$?

Mossberg 100 atr, with a redfield revenge, any of the 30-42mm will run you 125-170, the rifle is about 300$.

It's worked for me for about three years now. For a cheap mossy the rifle does as good as i can at the range.

I hear ya. I got my rig at acedamy sports. If you get the mossy atr, also get large scope rings, the factiry ones have a bad habit of setting the scope on your barrel.

You can look on Bud's Guns or Gunbroker also. Just look at what they want for shipping, and check around at your local dealer's and find out what they want for a transfer fee.
I've bought/sold quite a few used/new guns on Gunbroker and other online gun auction sites over the years, and have never had any problems with any transactions.
