well, today i was looking around online for deals on spotting scopes cause i kinda wanted one for my trips to the range when i saw that the Big 5 (sporting goods store) in my area had some on sale for like half price or less so i went up there.
after i found the one i wanted i was waiting for the guy to come over so i could check it out when i glanced over at the rifles and right in the front in the center was a russian mosin nagant 91/30 for 99 bucks.
99 dollar rifle, i had to check it out. plus i've been reading in this forum about how these are supposed to be great rifles for the money.
the one on display was in horrible shape. it literally had holes rotting through the stock and i was about to say screw it and just get what i came for, but the guy told me he had another one in the back that was in better shape but it was still covered in the cosmoline stuff so it wasn't on the shelf.
after a look at it and a peek down the bore of the second one i thought it was in good enough shape for the 99 dollar price tag so i went ahead and got it. after i got it home i broke it all the way down and got all the cosmoline off and gave it a good thorough cleaning and oiling and it looks a lot better. here's some pics of what i got:
a friend of mine has the m44 and i've shot it a couple times and it was decently accurate and the 7.62x54r ammo is dirt cheap so i think i'll be happy with mine.
thanks for the suggestion FTF. i'm sure this 99 dollar purchase will give me many years of enjoyment. maybe i'll do a range report on this one when i go try it out tomorrow (weather permitting).
