There's a nice one for sale on the CA forum I frequent. However, why not buy a collector grade from CMP and get a sweet example of the real deal?

Cuz ill shoot the hell out of it. I've been looking for a shooter at gunshops pawnshops and gunshows most have either bent oprods from shooting modern 06 ammo or have muzzles gaugeing past 3 or are all sloppy and would require a big expenditure to fix.

I don't belong to cmp approved organizations. Buying a rifle without even a pic seems wrong.

If there are any Wisconsin gun forums, maybe you can find one there. They're going for around $700. +/- in my area. You should be able to get a good shooter grade M1 for around that price. It will be a mixmaster, but it should have good ME and TE and good parts as well as a straight op rod.

Mixed parts don't matter. Most of the fun is looking. 700-900 is avg of late for junk samples. Going to the show this weekend taking my remington 700 as trade bait or straight sale for the right price.

MW of 3+ is not bad, Jon. IIRC, the "in spec" MW for a new barrel could be as high as 6. Gotta put a lot of rds through a 3 to make it a 6.

Most of the used 3s are due to improper cleaning, and a re-crown can do wonders.

And the SAI Garands had cast receivers. No functional issue, but a USGI forged receiver is always preferred. Also, the Garand receiver was the most intricate (and difficult to machine) rifle receiver ever made for the US. SAI has had quality control issues with their receivers for years. No gov't inspectors to kick out the marginal ones.
