Default Popping my cherry

So I'm looking for my first rifle. I want to shoot distance. I want to spend 350$ most. Not sure if I want a .308,30.06, or .270. I need input please give some opinions. ( Bolt action)

.270 would be a great choice. .308 next. Look at used guns or increase your budget.

Distance? About 100-200 yards? Find a decent used rifle and save for a decent optic.

OTOH, You could look at some of the "package" deals. Savage and Mossberg have some good entry level rifles with scopes that will get you started and stay in that price range. You can upgrade your optic later as the need arises

Welcome to the forum.

Define "distance". Also--what is it that you want to shoot "at distance",
and what kind of accuracy are you looking for.

Personal opinion---for a FIRST rifle, get a good 22 rimfire.

Dude, you can totally get a 1,000 yard package with a scope for that price.

Nah, just kidding. See it all the time, "I want to shoot 1,000 yards, but I only have 2 dollars, a stick of gum, a little pocket lint, and one stray pubic hair from an Italian virgin (so he said). What can I get?"

Go find something in your price range at a pawn shop. Just look for the nicest you can get, preferably with a scope. You can likely find someone's grandpa's riddle that they sold off to acquire some tacticool bull spit.

An older used savage 110 can be found for a pretty reasonable price, usually 2-3 hundred bucks or so. And it should be just as accurate as you are. I honestly don't know many shooters who are really limited by their rifle. The rifle is usually capable of better accuracy than the shooter.

If you are on a budget get an bull barrel H&R in 243. I know it is a single shot but they are accurate and if you do some shopping you will have enough money left over to buy a decent optic.

X2. What is it your are wanting to "shoot"? What distance are you talking about? Where/what state are you located?
If one of my friends asked me what you did, I'd invite them out for some fundamental shooting and plinking with one of my 10/22s and go from there.

Look for a savage used like said before, look at the axis, marlin x7, or ruger American. Avoid the Remington 770 some are ok at best.

When looking at scopes, Redfield, vortex has some cheaper optics and an awesome warranty, look at Nikon, or Bushnell.
