The Sterling 9mm carbines are great shooters and have outstanding mags - but you gotta like the old-skool 50's look.

I've been running this Rock River Arms LAR-9, 9 MM Carbine for a couple of years now. It's nice because it is an AR platform gun, and RRA machines the lower from solid as a 9 MM. It doesn't use the block that's pressed into the magwell like Colt and some of the others. Magazine lock up is tight, and they feed flawlessly. This one takes Colt, C-Products, as well as Pro-Mag and several other brands. All feed well.

I've made a couple of modifications to it since I bought it. I added a Vltor E-Mod Stock, and a 4 Rail Forend from Midwest Industries. I also added a Ergo Tactical Grip after this photo was taken. The gun shoulders a lot better because of it.

Indeed I do! The 34-Round Side-Loading Mags are Cool, but by the time I'm on my 4th Mag, the Barrel Shroud and Barrel Cover, tend to get a bit warm.

FYI, this baby's got some weight to it, and may be something you might be Bench Shooting after a Mag or two. Good Sights though, and very accurate!

Cheers!

There seems to be two different schools of thought here, the lever guys and the
military types. There is another self defense alternative: Mossberg makes a .410 I believe the call the Defender. Will dispatch bad guys as good as anything else.

I think he wanted the carbine so he could get her in the mindset of shooting in the style of a rifle. That way she can graduate to centerfire rifle eventually.
