Odd thought, how about a M1A1 in 30 Carbine?

Gives fairly low recoil, more velocity and range then a true pistol round, and could function as a general purpose rifle for myself also.

M1 carbines are fun. I just bought a Universal for $200!! Traded it in on a Mini 14(which would be a good choice for you also).

I have a Mini-14, it's too Heavy for my Fiance.

That said, so could an M1 Carbine.

No proof required. They use the honor system. While not fool proof it gives them a sense that they have plausible deniability because they asked. Not my system. Just saying that a person of age to have a rifle in pistol caliber still has a right to feed it.

if you can find one, a Ruger .44 Carbine would work nicely, any of the Marlin 1894's would be a reasonable alternative, I have a 1894 in .357, with a rather nasty load that the rifle can handle, you can shoot as many as the lever will chamber....
