I have one of the "restricted" Colt 9mm Carbines and about twenty Uzi magazines to accompany the Colt issue ones, the weapon was a gift from my best friend and has provided a great deal of fun shooting it. First if you own a 9mm Carbine you also should own a large interest in Federal Ammunition because they have a voracious appetite but in turn it will provide shooting fun and work quite well for home defense to boot.
I also built two pistols and a carbine in 300 Blackout which I must admit I like the cartridge a great deal having taken piles of Texas hogs with it. In my opinion the two weapons (9mm & 300 BO) are so dissimilar in performance as to make each unique and producing their own following. I do not expect the same from my 9mm Carbine as I do from my BO single shot, bolt action, two pistols and Carbine and vice-versa.

If you are looking for home defense, while being concerned about over penetration, there is an old, tried and true alternative to a pistol caliber carbine. It is called a short barrel shotgun. Seven rounds of .12 ga. is a lot of deterrent.

Yes they do eat ammo but luckily 9mm is fairly cheap right now. With the rebate American Eagle is as low as 15 cents. I cant reload for that.
