it has give us the 25-06, the 270, the 280, the 308, the 243 the 7mm-08, and so many, many more. just think that without the 30-06, how many fine cartridges may never have come to be. it's been to war, taken game on probably every continent on the face of the planet. wow! that's some history right there.
I thought the .308 round was derived from the .300 savage round...I could be wrong

Ok. Didn't see this before. That explains the history to me. Thanks!

the 308 Winchester was derived from the 30-06. the 300 Savage was based off the 30-06 and came closer to the dimensions of the 308. the 308 was introduced in 1952 and the 300 Savage was introduced in 1920. so the 300 was on the scene long before the 308. so a good many people who owned 300 Savages had the performance of the 308 long before they took the 30-06 and shortened it, into the 308.

The .300 Savage`s parent case is the .250-3000, it has nothing to do with the 06................

Just don't shoot the messenger. The parent Ctg. is listed in the box on the left.

yes, but the 250-3000 or the 250 Savage is based on the 30-06. and the 300 Savage's parent is the 250-3000. so in a round about way, the 300 Savage is indirectly evolved from the 30-06.

.405-.308 Pope Cartridge sounds like a good wildcat cartridge.

It is the forerunner to the 30-1906 Springfield or the 30-06 Springfield

If you want to go that route, then the parent case is the .30-03............
