more gun is ok but I'm sure a .308 would work wonders on a HOG.

I may have over done it some on the caliber, as I specifically bought that marlin for this hog hunt. originally i had me eyes on a lever action in 44mag, but I wanted the pistol grip stock and most of the other lever actions had that straight cowboy stock for the sling. I guess now I wont need another rifle until I'm looking to hit something big, plenty more than 150-200yds away.

If one misses the killzone with that big of a round does that scrap the whole kill in terms of making it unsuitable for eating?

You should try it out on some bears; probably wouldn't eat that anyway.
