accurateshooter is a great website, thanks.Ya I realize that nothing one does is cheap, but you only go round once.I may be getting too caught up in having something that no one else does , rather than just having something that I can shoot.

maybe it's time to bite the bullet and build a rifle, rather than modifying one. that was what i decided to do. bought a brand new Remington M700 receiver from Brownells and had it shipped to my gun dealer. having McGowan Barrels true the action, chamber and barrel it in 6.5mm-06 with a 26" fluted and muzzle braked barrel. should be back in about six months, then i can plan the next phase. might be something to check out. you would end up with a very personal gun to enjoy.

fine caliber and gun, but from the way he talks, i think he is wanting a bolt action gun.

This certainly helps answer my questions from earlier today. I was leaning towards a .243 and the answers above helped a great deal.

Now to find the right gun...

i personally have always been a 243 fan, probably because the first centerfire rifle i ever shot was my dad's winchester M70 243 many, many years ago. dad didn't hunt a lot, but reloaded and did lots of target shooting when we were younger. when we moved from the big city to the country, my brother and i used dad's rifle to deer hunt with, and the first deer i ever got was with that 243. i have had a couple of 243's over the years, but as of now, am lacking in one in my collection. i will have to rectify that in the near future.
